I know there has been a lot of chatter about David Tutera and don’t get me wrong, we are beyond excited to have him coming this year! But another amazing organization we are very proud to be involved with at the Uniquely Yours Bridal Showcase is Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Of course this is an amazing organization, but what makes it so amazing are the people that are involved and give their time and love to help end the disease that has unfortunately touched so many people. The Uniquely Yours Bridal Showcase is very proud to donate all of it’s door proceeds to Komen and also feature models in the fashion show that are survivors. I wanted you all to have a chance to get to know some of these amazing women, so here are some photos and short bios to do just that. Yes, we all love gorgeous flowers and amazing event planners but lets stop a moment and look at another side of the Uniquely Yours Bridal Showcase and the people involved. We thank you all for your support and can’t wait to see everyone on January 16th!

My name is Amanda Patterson; I am a 48 year old single mom to a 21 year old college senior. I work at the Westin Virginia Town Center as the Conference Service manager. My life changed on June 24, 2006, when I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. I have learned to take life One day at a time. My greatest joy is the love and support of my family. My mother recently lost her battle with breast cancer on November 9, 2010. She taught me to live each day with courage and dignity. The true self is not dictated by your circumstance of your life, but how you deal with those circumstances. I look forward to a very long and happy life.

Professionally I am a registered dietitian who publically speaks to various groups from those afflicted with eating disorders to cancer survivors and I work with McDonald’s to help promote their healthy active lifestyle campaign. I am also a hip-hop dance teacher and choreographer for Music in Motion dance company. Personally I am a wife and mom to three amazing children, a 10 year old and 6-year-old twins. I am also an 8-year cancer survivor! I got diagnosed with cancer at the age 30 when my oldest child was only 14 months old. I thought I would be the last type of person to get breast cancer as I was very active, nutritionally healthy, had my first baby before the age of 30 and had nursed her for 13 months, and had no family history of cancer. But cancer does not have age restrictions nor does it follow text-book guidelines. Luckily I found my cancer so it was diagnosed quickly. To live a long healthy life you must always be proactive about your own health. I am 100% healthy today because I was proactive and I try to instill that to anyone who hears my story.
